Music Education in Nubian Square

Location
Roxbury, Boston.
Focus
Music education and a permanent teaching facility.
Milestone
Lessons and classes scheduled to begin in January 2027.

More room for musical opportunity.

The Community Music Center of Boston recently purchased a building at 2164 Washington Street to establish a permanent home in Nubian Square. Zynoco has worked with participating client families to support this expansion. Plans include updated classrooms and performance spaces, with improved accessibility and common areas where people can gather. The new facility will operate alongside CMCB’s existing South End teaching spaces, extending its presence in a neighborhood where it already has educational partnerships.

The expansion is intended to create further opportunities to connect with local students and families through music education. CMCB credits its Valuing All Voices campaign and the generosity of donors for making the project possible. Building completion is scheduled for fall 2026, with lessons and classes beginning in January 2027.

A Permanent Home for Creative Learning

Location
Housatonic, Massachusetts.
Focus
Dance education and community arts.
Milestone
Property acquired in December 2024.

Space to learn and perform.

Berkshire Pulse acquired a historic mill building at 410 Park Street in Housatonic on December 20, 2024, securing a future permanent home beside its existing premises. The planned conversion will create a dance and creative arts center with additional classroom and performance space. This permanent-home project is among the initiatives supported by client families working with Zynoco.

Pulse intends the facility to accommodate an expansion of its programs and become a community resource for Berkshire-area artists and families. A small group of anonymous donors fully underwrote the purchase and acquisition costs, while planning and construction require separate future fundraising. The announcement sets out a tentative renovation period of 2025–2027, with existing classes continuing at the neighboring Rubin Mill during the transition.

Food Support Closer to Home

Location
Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Focus
Household food access.
Milestone
Ongoing initiative, with 2025 activity documented in the foundation’s annual report.

Practical support for everyday needs.

Launched in 2023, Cambridge Community Foundation’s Food Access and Security Initiative supports local food organizations and cooperation across the Cambridge Food Pantry Network. Zynoco’s work with participating client families includes charitable support for this initiative. The program’s funding helps sustain the operations and delivery arrangements that bring food to residents facing food insecurity.

The foundation’s 2025 annual report describes practical improvements, including a revised queuing system at Cambridge Community Center that improved the pantry experience. It also reports support for Food For Free’s grocery deliveries to residents at Walden Square Apartments, helping reach people who have difficulty traveling or do not feel safe leaving home. One-third of the initiative’s funding that year came from residents who preferred to remain unnamed, supporting the organizations responsible for getting food to people who need it.
